Mission & Values
The objects of the Charity are:
- The provision of housing accommodation for housing beneficiaries.
- Charitable purposes for the benefit of residents as the trustees decide
- the relief of beneficiaries who are in need or hardship or distress.
The United Charities of St. Leonard Shoreditch are an amalgamation of 50 separate charities that, from the 16th through to the 21st Century, have striven to support the people of Shoreditch.
Work was done in the fields of Education and Health, but above all to provide Housing for the needy and in one way of another, the Trustees have provided Almshouses for over 400 years.
Today's Trustees aspire to adhere to certain basic principles, assistance on the basis of need, equal opportunities and freedom of conscience, democratic, responsible and responsive conduct of our work and commitment to our residents.
Our Trustees

Steve Smeeth
Chair of the Trustees
Steve has lived in London all his life. A Hoxton resident and former Chair of Arden Estate TMO. Steve is a keen supporter of his local and wider community and was elected Chair in 2021.
Maggie Gallon
Vice Chair of the Trustees
Maggie has lived in Hoxton for over 24 years. She is very active in the community, and is Board Secretary of the local Tenant Management Organisation and Chair of Hoxton West Ward Panel. She is a keen crafter and loves to sing.
Leslie Harrison
Trustee
Born and raised in Shoreditch and licensee of several pubs in the EastEnd. Former Deputy Chariman of the Arden Estate TMO in Hoxton, Shoreditch. Les is interested in Sport, particularly Football and the Community.
